My love for golf began when I was six years old, and I won my first junior golf tournament when I was seven. I've had the honor of playing for the Philippine national golf team, competing in various tournaments worldwide, including the Asian Games in Indonesia. One of the highlights of my career was playing in the 2016 US Junior Amateur tournament, where I finished fifth in stroke play and made it to the quarter-finals. Although I had five top-five finishes in AJGA tournaments, I struggled with my mental game when I first started playing in the AJGA. With the help of my team, I learned how to restructure my thoughts on the course, which helped me perform at my best and achieve top finishes.
How it started
The recruiting phase was a challenging process for me, especially before my junior year. I didn't have many schools interested in me until after my performance in the US Junior and AJGA tournaments. After the US Junior, a lot of schools reached out to recruit me, and it was overwhelming to make the decision. Ultimately, I chose the University of Virginia for my college golf career, which turned out to be an excellent decision.
During my time at UVA, I learned a lot about myself and my game, improving my stroke average, recording career-best tournament scores, and top finishes in tournaments. Being named to the 2021 ACC Academic Honor Roll was a proud moment for me, as it reflects my dedication to both academics and athletics.
Hi, I'm WeiWei – let me share my golf journey with you.
What I'm doing now
I graduated from UVA in 2021 and currently pursuing my dream of playing on the PGA Tour. I played in the 2022 Korn Ferry Q School and made it to the second stage. Although I didn't make it to the final stage, I was proud of my performance, especially being a year out of college. I'm currently preparing for the upcoming season and working hard to achieve my goals.
Along with my own pursuits, I'm passionate about sharing my knowledge and helping Junior golfers navigate their way into a college golf team or even other golfers who want to improve their game. That's why I've created a program where golfers of all skill levels can learn what I've learned over the years.
Golf has taught me important life skills such as discipline, patience, and perseverance, which I'll carry with me in all aspects of my life. I'm excited to continue working towards achieving my goals and helping others along the way.
Thank you for taking the time to read about my journey as a golfer and I look forward to helping you!
